Summary

Catherine Briddick, ‘He doubted strongly whether there would be any cases of persecution on grounds of sex’: Women, Discrimination, and the Refugee Convention at 75, International Journal of Refugee Law, 2026;, eeag019, https://doi-org.sussex.idm.oclc.org/10.1093/ijrl/eeag019

In her article for the International Journal of Refugee Law’s Special Issue, Associate Professor Catherine Briddick reflects on what the Refugee Convention does and doesn’t have to say about women’s rights.

‘For feminists and those who draw on feminist approaches to international law (FAIL), the challenge remains two-fold. We must scrutinize the way that women and gender are included in refugee law, highlighting silences, analysing colonial legacies, and contesting the racialized politics of protection.’
