Abstract

Central America is undergoing a profound transformation. Once primarily a region of emigration, forced return, and northward transit, it is increasingly becoming a place of prolonged wait, various types of return, and long-term stranded mobility, where people move in multiple directions without clear pathways forward or adequate protection. … For forcibly returned women, this is particularly concerning as a convergence of forced return and institutional withdrawal not only creates new vulnerability, but it compounds pre-existing ones.
