Esta capacitación y taller en línea ha sido diseñada para profesionales del derecho (en los ámbitos de asilo e inmigración) y defensores con especial interés en las solicitudes de asilo por motivos de género en América Latina. El evento se llevará a cabo en español (lamentablemente, no contamos con presupuesto para ofrecer interpretación simultánea al inglés u otros idiomas).
SABRINA PAULA VECCHIONI (PRESIDENTE)
Abogada (UBA), Magíster en Género, Sociedad y Política (FLACSO-PRIGEPP), doctoranda en Ciencias Sociales en la FSOC-UBA. Abogada de personas migrantes, solicitantes de asilo y refugiadas de la Defensoría General de la Nación -Argentina- (2012-2025); con experiencia en labor legislativa (2010-2011). Profesora de Derecho Internacional Humanitario (UBA), docente de las capacitaciones en género de la Escuela Judicial del Consejo de la Magistratura del Poder Judicial de la Nación y de la Red Iberoamericana de Escuelas Judiciales -RIAEJ-.
NATALIA CINTRA (CAPACITADORA)
Investigadora Sénior en el área de Raza y Políticas Migratorias del Departamento de Política y Relaciones Internacionales de la Universidad de Southampton. Es investigadora principal del proyecto financiado por la British Academy titulado “Racial Politics of Forced Displacement in Latin America” (Políticas raciales del desplazamiento forzado en América Latina) y codirectora del proyecto financiado por ESRC-Fapesp titulado “The Contested Politics of Humanitarian Visas (Humanvisa)” (La política en disputa de las visas humanitarias). Posee un doctorado en Derecho por la Pontificia Universidad Católica de Río de Janeiro, Brasil.
Natalia utilizará un enfoque de género para ofrecer una breve visión general de los mecanismos de protección internacional, incluyendo el marco jurídico en las Américas y los estándares regionales pertinentes.
NATASHA PÉREZ TÜMMLER (CAPACITADORA)
Litigante regional para las Américas en el Global Strategic Litigation Council. Natasha es abogada costarricense y cuenta con una maestría en Derecho y Sostenibilidad por la Universidad de Utrecht, en los Países Bajos. Su trabajo se centra en el litigio de derechos humanos y la incidencia estratégica en favor de las personas en situación de movilidad.
Natasha abordará cómo proteger y garantizar el acceso al asilo mediante un enfoque de género, incluyendo las mejores prácticas para las autoridades, así como estrategias de incidencia y litigio.
LORENA CANO PADILLA (CAPACITADORA)
Coordinadora de la Clínica Jurídica en IMUMI. Maestra en Derechos Humanos por la Universidad Iberoamericana. Licenciada en Derecho por el Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (ITAM); y Estudios de Derechos Humanos y Derecho Comunitario en la Universidad Carlos III de Madrid. Coordinó el Centro de Acceso a la Justicia del ITAM. Coordinó el área legal de Sin Fronteras, IAP. Abogada Senior de la Clínica Jurídica para Refugiados en la Universidad Iberoamericana de la Ciudad de México. Fue directora de Repatriación Humana en el Instituto Nacional de Migración.
Lorena abordará la intersección entre el procedimiento de legibilidad, el criterio basado en el género y el contenido del protocolo para la resolución de casos que involucran a mujeres ante la Suprema Corte de Justicia de México.

Access to Asylum through a Gender-Sensitive Lens: A Regional Dialogue and Training on Latin America

This online training and workshop has been designed for asylum and immigration practitioners and advocates with a particular interest in gender-based claims for asylum in Latin America. The event will be held in Spanish (unfortunately we do not have a budget to provide simultaneous translation in English or other languages).
SABRINA PAULA VECCHIONI (CHAIR)
Lawyer (University of Buenos Aires), Master’s degree in Gender, Society and Policy (FLACSO-PRIGEPP) and PhD candidate in Social Sciences (FSOC-UBA). She has worked as a public defence lawyer of migrants, asylum seekers and refugees at the Public Defender’s Office -Argentina-, among other positions at the legislative branch. Professor of International Humanitarian Law (UBA) and gender courses at the Judicial School of the Council of the Magistracy of the Argentine National Judiciary and at the Ibero-American Network of Judicial Schools (RIAEJ).
NATALIA CINTRA (TRAINER)
Senior Research Fellow in Race & Migration Politics at the Politics and International Relations Department at the University of Southampton. She is Principal Investigator of the British Academy-funded project ‘Racial Politics of Forced Displacement in Latin America’, and Co-Lead of the ESRC-Fapesp-funded project “The Contested Politics of Humanitarian Visas (Humanvisa)”. Natalia will use a gender-sensitive lens to provide a brief overview of international protection mechanisms, including the legal framework in the Americas and relevant regional standards.

Regional Litigator for the Americas at the Global Strategic Litigation Council. Natasha is a Costa Rican lawyer and holds a Masters in Law and Sustainability from Utrecht University in the Netherlands. Her work focuses on human rights litigation and strategic advocacy for people on the move.
Natasha will discuss how to protect and ensure access to asylum through a gender-sensitive lens, including best practices for authorities, as well as advocacy and litigation strategies.

Legal Clinic Coordinator at IMUMI. Master’s degree in Human Rights from the Universidad Iberoamericana. Bachelor’s degree in Law from the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (ITAM); and studies in Human Rights and Community Law at the Universidad Carlos III in Madrid. She coordinated the Center for Access to Justice at ITAM. She coordinated the legal department at Sin Fronteras, IAP. She is a senior attorney at the Legal Clinic for Refugees at the Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico City. She served as director of Humane Repatriation at the National Institute of Migration.
Lorena will discuss the intersection between the legibility procedure, the gender-based rationale, and the content of the protocol for adjudicating cases involving women before the Supreme Court of Justice of Mexico.
